How long have you worked at Multicultural Hub, and what is your role?

I have been working with Multicultural Hub since September of 2022 and I work as the Multicultural Engagement and Resilience Officer for the Bushfire Recovery project.

What do you like about working with the Multicultural Community?

The backbone of every nation is its community, when the community has our back; no challenge is too big or small. Working closing with diverse communities over the past couple of years has been exceptionally rewarding in experiencing the rich culture, values and beliefs within every community. Canberra is blessed with outstanding community leaders and community organisations who have always worked hand in hand to support our multicultural community. Advocating for equality for all individuals irrespective of culture, language, colour, gender, cast, religion and socio-economic status has always been the fuel igniting my passion

What are some of the things you do in your role?

Through this exciting role, I aim to inform, prepare and support multicultural and multilingual communities in the ACT during emergency situations such as bushfires, floods and storms and also work as a conduit between ACT Emergency Services and diverse communities.

What’s something people might not know about you?

I am driven by passion, so if you are confused why I talk a lot or advocate for the area that I am working in, it’s just to ensure the ripple effect brings out meaningful outcomes for people in the community, especially those from marginalised and low socioeconomic backgrounds. So fun fact, I get louder and louder every day with a project.

What would you say to a community member who might be thinking about connecting with a service at Multicultural Hub Canberra?

A Hub as you know is usually used to describe the epicentre of activities. Multicultural Hub over the years has done the exact but with keeping the multicultural communities at the centre of everything. All the planning, engagement, support, advocacy, partnerships and so much more are always done in consultation and input from the community and it’s always picked on projects that will benefit the individuals and groups that place their trust on us.  Check out our website and follow us on socials to see all the exciting work that we do, day in and out.
